Touch International gets grip on handheld market

June 18, 2002

AUSTIN, Texas -- Calling it a "primary market focus" for the company, touchscreen supplier Touch International Inc. has begun offering its TurboWare touchscreen drivers for Windows XP, CE.NET, and CE 3.0 systems. The drivers will be marketed for personal digital assistants, smart phones, and other devices that utilize Microsoft's Mira technology.

Touch International, whose touchscreen component manufacturing partners includes Taipei-based eTurbo Touch, cited market demand -- particularly in Taiwan -- in introducing the new drivers.

"Portable and handheld devices are a primary market focus for the company," Gary Barnett, Touch International chief technology officer, said in a news release. "To meet the technology requirements for our growing customer base, we decided to expand the TurboWare family."

Launched in the spring of 2002, Touch International is a privately held supplier of touchscreen components for a variety of sectors, including the kiosk industry.
