The Sun rises over Wincor Nixdorf

AUSTIN, Texas - Financial and retail solutions provider Wincor Nixdorf Inc. on Feb. 19 announced that it has been named an authorized services provider by hardware and software provider Sun Microsystems Inc.

The deal means Wincor Nixdorf is now able to offer Sun products as part of its financial and retail services solutions. Included in the packages is a Java-enabled point-of-sale system through Wincor's BEETLE line. Wincor's BEETLE line also includes mobile point-of-sale devices, kiosks, and lottery terminals.

Java-based point-of-sale applications software will also be available through Wincor's network of independent software vendors.

A Wincor-Sun point-of-sale terminal is currently on display at Sun's iForce Ready Center, located in Menlo Park, Calif.
