Thales Group, a Paris based technology provider, has introduced a multimodal biometric pod to manage travelers' border and immigration processes, according to a press release.
Featuring a camera and a high-resolution LCD screen, the biometric pod is able to recognize a pre-enrolled traveler's iris and face at a distance ranging from 0.5 millimeters to 1.5 millimeters. Boosted by AI, the solution captures dual iris and face in two seconds, enabling swifter operations and shorter wait times.
The biometric pods can be set at any checkpoint (airports, seaports, etc.) managing both the traveler enrollment upon arrival and quick biometric checks whenever required.
Governments have used biometrics to simplify traveler experiences at borders such as the e-gates and entry-exit systems. With the Thales multimodal biometric pod, authorities can integrate automation into the processes without compromising passenger and employee security or the confidentiality of the data exchanged.
"The combination of biometric patterns applied to contactless authentication is a sought-after solution for many stakeholders to address security, operational and convenience challenges," Youzec Kurp, vice president of identity and biometric solutions at Thales, said in the press release.
