Texas wellness group using kiosks to automate patient entry

November 18, 2003

AUSTIN, Texas -- Bluebonnet Trails Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation, an organization offering a variety of mental wellness and community services in central Texas, is the first customer of TouchSystems Corp.'s new all-in-one touch computer product line based on Intel's Pentium IV chip set.

The goal is to automate the collection and analysis of patient information, according to a news release. Blue Bonnet Mental Health and Retardation is using TouchSystems kiosks throughout its network of offices. Caregivers, administrative staff, patients and family members are now able to quickly and efficiently provide and access information.

The touch interface provides ease-of-use, while the enhanced performance and speed enabled by the new Pentium IV-based platform gives Blue Bonnet an ideal system to provide the best care available, the release stated.

"As part of an IT infrastructure connecting different health audiences, the system we chose for our automation project had to be user-friendly, reliable and efficient," said Steve Howard, director of information services at Bluebonnet Mental Health and Mental Retardation.

"In our industry, patients are required to complete lengthy surveys during each visit. The new touch-based kiosks allow us to completely automate the entry, tracking, and analysis of patient information. This streamlined system integration enables our doctors, nurses and managers the ability to get at the information they need immediately and reliably."

He noted that TouchSystems' Industra Touch II is not only boosting patient satisfaction and care, but also improving staff productivity.

The new Pentium IV platform is available on all of TouchSystems' built-to-order touch PCs, including kiosk, desktop, open-frame, rack mount and wall-mount models.
