Fort Bend County commissioners in Richmond, Texas have approved a five-year renewal of its virtual court kiosk, according to a Community Impact report.
The kiosk was initially approved for one year's use in March of 2023 and has been a valuable resource for residents, according to the news outlet. The kiosk allows for a private environment for residents to attend to legal matters virtually, which is helpful for those who do not have their own devices or accessible internet. Residents can use the kiosk for attending an online court hearing, researching information on legal issues, filing forms online and obtaining legal help, according to the news outlet.
The kiosk program also offers free attorney consultations for low-income community members and can assist with matters related to family court, intimate partner violence, military and veteran benefits and social justice issues, among others.
