Texas college restaurant offers robotic waiter

Patrons at Eric's Restaurant at the Hilton University of Houston can now be served by a delivery robot named "Servi" provided by the college's hospitality program, according to a click2houston,com report.

Dennis Reynolds, dean of the university's Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership, saw Servi on display at this year's National Restaurant Show in Chicago. Reynolds and graduate student Melica Jahed will study how Servi affects the customer experience.

The robot, provided by Bear Robotics, arrived at Eric's Restaurant in October and was prepared for service by Tanner Lucas, the executive chef and foodservice director at Eric's. The process required weeks of mapping, programming and testing.
