Telemedicine kiosk company HealthSpot recently told its largest customer Rite Aid, that it planned to cease operations. As a result, it has shut down its kiosks in Rite Aid pharmacies throughout Ohio, according to areportby Columbus Business First.

It is currently unclear if HealthSpot is shutting down its business completely or simply its partnership with Rite Aid. HealthSpot kiosks were designed to allow patients to connect with doctors remotely, and perform basic checkups using the machine's self-service medical equipment.

"On Monday, Dec. 28, Rite Aid was notified by HealthSpot of its intention to cease operations effective Thursday, Dec. 31 ... Rite Aid appreciated the opportunity to offer HealthSpot services to our patients and customers over the past year," Rite Aid wrote in a statement. "We believe very much in the value of telehealth and will continue to explore options to offer such services in the future."

According to the report, HealthSpot has not responded to any requests for comments. Recently, the company had been dealing with a patent dispute with another company. It is unclear if this lawsuit is connected to the company ceasing its partnership with Rite Aid.
