Technology company Indra has deployed 124 automatic border control biometric kiosks at airports in Spain, according to a report from Indra. The goal is to speed up processing of passengers from the European Union returning home from non-member countries.
In order to use the kiosks, passengers must present a digital passport or electronic ID and provide fingerprint. The kiosk also has boasts facial recognition to identify passengers. The kiosks were deployed January and June as part of the Smarts Borders program, which is co-funded by the European Union.
The kiosks have been deployed at airports in Madrid, Barcelona, Giorna, Palma de Callorca, South Tenerife and Malaga airports, according to the report.
