Synaptics, Zytronic unveil touchscreen sensor system

March 7, 2002

ORLANDO, Fla. - With an eye toward the outdoor market, touch-sensing technology company Synaptics(NASDAQ:SYNA) and touch sensor manufacturer Zytronic Display Ltd. (LSE:ZYT.L) have released a new touchscreen sensor system.

TouchScreen, which was unveiled during the KioskCom 2002 conference and trade show March 4-7 in Orlando, Fla., is developed to be durable, dependable, and safe from outdoor elements such as climate and vandalism. The touchscreen is hermetically sealed to ward off heat, moisture, and violent attacks.

Officials from the two companies said TouchScreen would be marketed at a variety of outdoor markets, including ATMs, Web phones, gaming machines, ticket dispensers, and gas pump displays.

TouchScreen was developed using Synaptics' touchscreen technology and Zytronic's experience with touch sensors, optical fibers, and laminates.

"Synaptics and Zytronics are ideal development partners because of their complementary core competencies," David Huntley, Zytronic managing director, said in a news release.

Samples and evaluation kits will be available during the second quarter of this year.
