ATLANTA -- A wireless communications system developed by information systems provider Symbol Technologies Inc. (NYSE:SBL) was named Grand Prize winner in the Best of Show Awards competition at this year's NetWorld+Interop and COMDEX 2002 Atlanta trade show and conference, which ran Sept. 9-13 at the Georgia World Conference Center.
Symbol's Mobius Wireless System took down top honors along with Best of Show honors in the wireless technologies category.
The wireless local area networking architecture is designed to deliver high-performance IEEE 802.11 communications while complementing other 802.11 wireless products. Symbol's wireless strategy includes developing two networks -- one for point-of-sale and supply chain management, the other for interactive kiosks.
"Mobius Wireless System proved to be the product we feel will stand out most in the marketplace in a time when every dollar counts in IT investments as never before," Ron Anderson, Network Computingeditor and head of the judging panel, said in a news release.
Based in Holtsville, N.Y., Symbol develops mobile information systems that integrate application-specific hand-held devices with wireless networks for data, voice, and bar-code data capture.
