Super Mario Bros movie sets record Redbox kiosk rentals

Redbox kiosks saw a record week of rentals with the recent addition of the animated film, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," according to a press release.

The film set several records, including becoming the top movie rental for 2023, the most rented movie in its first week since "Top Gun: Maverick," and the most first-week rentals for a family film since "The Croods: A New Age."

"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" also broke week one transactional video-on-demand revenue records on the Redbox streaming service. The Premium Video-on-Demand and Premium Electronic Sell-Through debut surpassed the previous record PEST launch of "Avatar: The Way of Water."

"This is one of many major films coming to our kiosks, and we expect this positive momentum to continue as more consumers seek low-cost entertainment options," William Rouhana, Jr., CEO of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, owner of Redbox, said in the press release.
