Study lists self-serve check-in kiosks at U.K. airports

August 12, 2010

England's Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) Ltd. has released a study on the different check-in times at all major U.K. airports. The study also shows which airlines offer online check-in services, self-service check-in desks and check-in kiosks, and at which airports. APH is a U.K. provider of parking and hotels for travelers.

Not all the airports offer self-service check-in kiosks with apparently none available at Blackpool International Airport, Durham Tees Airport and Luton Airport. Virgin Atlantic, Flybe and Norwegian.no are the only airlines at London Gatwick that offer a self-service check-in kiosk, whereas there are thirteen airlines available at London Heathrow.

The research found that passengers flying with the low cost airlines easyJet and Ryanair have the longest time allowance to check-in online or at the airport, ranging from 60 days to two hours and 15 days to one hour respectively. Iceland Express also allows travellers to check-in from 60 days before the flight, with Monarch Airlines and Wizzair seven days.

However some airlines, such as Adria Airways, Brussels Airlines, Flybe, and SAS, allow passengers to check-in as close to one hour before the flight with BMI even offering 30 minutes for most flights. Travellers should also be conscious of which destination they're flying to, as customers flying with Qatar have 36 hours to check-in but travellers flying with the same airline to the US have only 24 hours. Customers flying to Geneva with bmibaby also have only 24 hours, whereas to other destinations they can check-in up to seven days beforehand.
