State of Florida to deploy legal aid kiosks

Florida residents soon will be able to use kiosks to receive legal advice and aid while on the go.

May 18, 2015

Soon, Florida residents will be able to use kiosks to receive legal advice and aid while on the go. This measure is part of a proposal by the Florida Commission on Access to Civil Justice, according to a report by CBS Miami.

The commission plans to establish a statewide portal for users. "The statewide portal will be a software-based access point that would be in libraries, courthouses, shopping malls that would be the point at which a person with a legal problem could go find someone to solve their problem, or even get forms or education to find out how to do it themselves," commission member William Van Nortwick said in an interview with CBS.

In Florida, currently 80 percent of all legal needs are not met, according to the report, so allowing users to access legal aid through kiosks or computers could help relieve this problem.

The commission plans to finalize plans with a report in October.
