State Bank of India opened its first digital branch, "SBI In Touch," in Meerut on Monday, according to NYOOZ, an Indian news site. While most of the branch functions are automated, the branch has staff to help customers. The automated kiosks include a debit card issuing machine, a passbook printing machine, a cash deposit machine and an ATM.
The branch allows customers to open bank accounts, deposit and withdraw money, update passbooks, deposit checks and print ATM cards through separate kiosks. Any individual with an adhaar card – which contains a government-issued identification number – can open a bank account in just five minutes by means of automated kiosks. At the account opening kiosk, customers can fill in the details and an in-built camera will capture their image.
