St. Mary's checks in with kiosks

July 18, 2016

St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, has deployed check-in kiosks for patients in an effort to reduce administrative errors and speed up the check-in process, according to a report by The Record.

The hospital has deployed two kiosks for use by outpatients at its eye clinic and cataract surgery facilities. To check in, patients swipe a health card at the kiosk and enter basic data such as contact information and the name of their doctor.

The hospital deployed the kiosks to reduce wait times for patients at the busy clinic, where doctors perform approximately 3,700 cataract procedures each year.

"Ultimately, we're getting more accurate information and that's important to have," Barbara Guidolin, vice-president of patient services and chief nursing executive, told The Record. She said that the hospital hopes to deploy additional check-in kiosks in the near future.
