An application for 12 sports betting kiosks has been tabled by Westbrook, Connecticut officials after opposition from residents was voiced at a public hearing, according to a zip06.com report.
Connecticut legalized sports betting in 2021.

The Westbrook zoning commission accepted an application in February for 12 sports betting kiosks in the Dead Eye Saloon Restaurant and scheduled a public hearing on March 27.

During the public hearing, the commission tabled the application until the town attorney offered guidance since existing regulations do not mention "gambling kiosks."

The public hearing drew a larger than usual crowd, most of whom spoke against the application. Opponents said sports betting is not consistent with Westbrook's small-town character and might attract clientele that would burden police and send a negative message to young residents.
