Spain to deploy Marconi Web phone kiosks

February 8, 2004

LONDON -- Marconi Corp. plc said Telefonica, the Spanish national operator, will use Neptune 800 and 1000 interactive kiosks to provide communication solutions to private and public-sector organizations.

Telefonica, which has already deployed a public network of Neptune Web phones, has signed a three-year frame contract with Marconi to exploit multimedia kiosk opportunities in Spain, according to a news release.

The Telefonica deployment will take advantage of enhanced messaging applications and kiosk peripheral functionality, such as printers and other user interfaces.

The strength of the Marconi and Telefonica relationship adds to a series of recent successes for the Neptune range of Web phones and interactive kiosks, the release said. Marconi is rolling out networks on behalf of BT in the UK and TCC Teleplex in New York City, as well as national service providers elsewhere in Europe and Asia.

"Enterprise applications fit hand-in-glove with the Neptune 1000 interactive kiosk," said Liam Brown, managing director of Marconi Interactive Systems, in the release. "The Neptune range has been designed from its inception as both a public and private network terminal and it is a natural evolution for service providers to enter the enterprise market to capitalise on potentially lucrative opportunities in that sector."
