SOUTHAMPTON, England - As part of a nationwide initiative to improve online service, 12 housing-advocacy kiosks will be deployed at public facilities in Southampton, England, on April 18.
The deployment, part of the SmartPath project to increase the use of smart cards in England, will raise to 14 the number of public assistance kiosks deployed in the city.
The kiosks, which will be deployed at public libraries, housing benefit offices, and other public facilities, will provide Southampton residents access to housing repairs applications. Residents can also track the progress of repair requests online using the kiosks.
The program will be piloted to 6,000 Southampton residents, who will be able to access the program either online using smart cards or through the kiosks. Officials from Entrust Inc., which is providing Internet security products and solutions for the project, said the project eventually will be expanded to include other services and provide access to 250,000 users.
