Sony maintains commitment to plasma screens

PARK RIDGE, N.J. - Continuing a quest to combine size and sharpness in one unit, Sony Electronics Inc.on Feb. 20 announced the unveiling of its new flat-panel plasma monitor, the PFM-32C1.

The PFM-32C1, which can be used conference and traini8ng settings, point-of-purchase and point-of-sale locations, and with information kiosks in public places, features a 32-inch diagonal viewing area, along with high resolution at 1024 by 852 pixels. The monitor also features a pixel-by-pixel conversion system that recognizes individual characteristics in film and video for creating sharper image reproduction.

The new monitor has a suggested list price of $6,000 and is available immediately from authorized Sony resellers.

The company also revealed that it has developed a prototype 50-inch plasma display and expects to ship the product to the market this summer.
