Software firm on verge of $10 million deal

April 16, 2003

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. - As of the start of business today, CMD Global Systems has changed its name to Carten Technologies Corp., according to chief executive Mark Carten. The company plans to announce a $10 million kiosk deployment contract in the United Kingdom soon, Carten said.

The company, which considers itself primarily a software vendor, has spent two years in research and development, and is on the verge of making significant partnership and international deployment announcements, Carten said. It produces some hardware products as well.

Carten said the new company name reflects a new focus on diversifying. "We are not just software, but customized hardware designs, as well," said Carten. "Another big part of our business will be retrofitting software on existing kiosks," he said.

The company produces four products: the InTouch Series 100 unit, designed for use in public areas like shopping malls, railway terminals and convention centers; the InTouch Series 200 unit, a wall-mount case designed to fit into standard phone enclosures; the InTouch Series 300 unit, which incorporates all the features of the InTouch 100 model but in a semi-enclosed, more private housing; and the InTouch Series 400 system, which allows hotels, convention centers and similar venues to provide individual Internet access points via wireless connectivity.
