SMO adding biometrics to airport kiosks

February 27, 2002

EVERSON, Wash. - SMO Multimedia Corp. (Pink Sheets:SKLK) has taken the first steps toward introducing biometrics into its airport kiosk program, creating a security division for its Airport Information Systems unit and entering a business alliance with biometrics firm Imagis Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:IGSTF).

Under the partnership, Imagis will incorporate its facial imaging technology into the company's airport kiosk installations. SMO plans to create a variety of security services through agreements with security and biometric firms.

The company's security division plans to integrate fingerprint and facial recognition systems into a security system for airports and office buildings. The system would work either as a fully functioning unit or a stand-alone system.

"These new developments in our airport service offerings are very encouraging and we believe that we can integrate these technologies for the benefit of travelers everywhere," Roni Trehy, SMO vice president of airport operations, said in a news release.

In late September, SMO announced plans to add security information to its E-station airport terminal kiosks. Safety information, evacuation locations, and airport security rules are being added to the system, which offers airport information, services, and gift-card programs.

SMO chief executive officer Robert Pratt was scheduled to discuss the E-station kiosk system at a luncheon on Sept. 11 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The luncheon was postponed after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.
