Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority is testing an automatic passenger in-car border clearance system that uses biometric scanners, cameras and sensors to detect the size of each vehicle as it approaches and adjusts the height of its scanning devices so drivers and passengers can interact while remaining in the car, according to an nfcw.com report.
The driver scans the passports of everyone in the vehicle at the kiosk's passport scanner. Each traveler is then prompted to look at cameras that simultaneously scan their irises and faces.
The exit gate inside the enclosed area automatically opens when the identities are authenticated.
The system is being tested at the Woodlands Checkpoint through October for travelers entering the country from Malaysia.
