Shoppers at five Hannaford supermarkets in Maine can now charge their electric cars at new kiosks. The charging kiosks are designed to charge cars in 20 minutes, according to a report by The Portland Press Herald.
The supermarket chain teamed up with EVgo to deploy the stations. The stations are designed to provide faster charging than normal chargers and to encourage other consumers to purchase electric cars. Customers at the Hannaford locations can pay for the charge with a credit card or an EVgo monthly subscription.
The kiosks use SAE connectors to power most American and European electric cars and CHAdeMO plugs for Asian electric cars. Owners of Tesla vehicles can also charge at the station with an adapter.
"You should see Hannaford as your new corner gas station," Barry Woods, director of Electric Mobility NE, an electric vehicle advocacy group, said in the report. "This metal box will help us all charge into the future."
