Sheriff who intro'd crime prevention kiosks under criminal investigation

July 19, 2016

In 2014, Marion County, Florida, Sheriff Chris Blair introduced a crime prevention kiosk program. Ironically, Blair is now himself the target of a criminal investigation that has resulted in the kiosks being taken down, according to a report by Villages News.

The kiosks were installed to enable the public sharing of information about active criminals, amber alerts and crime tips. Blair facilitated the deployment of 147 kiosks in local businesses and public places.

Now, Blair has been suspended and is charged with perjury and official misconduct. According to the report, the Marion County Sheriff's Office removed the crime prevention kiosks based on information uncovered during the investigation of Blair.
