Shell stations to show NBC News at the pump

April 17, 2006

Brandweek: NBC Universal Television Stations is announcing a deal this week to get its programming out to captive audiences at the gas pumps. Under the deal, NBC will show national and local news, weather and entertainment news on daylight-viewable 17-inch screens with stereo speakers. The deal, with VST Media Network, Los Angeles, means the programming will currently reach 17 Shell gas stations in Los Angeles, but by year's end, VST plans to have 500 stations in L.A., San Francisco and San Diego. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Not to sound too corny, but as you're filling your tank, we're filling your mind," said Ric Harris, executive vice president of-digital media and strategic marketing at NBC Universal Television Stations.
