A self-operated sobriety test kiosk has allowed the Ferndale, Michigan police to administer sobriety tests without exposing personnel to the COVID-19 virus, according to a Royal Oak Tribune report.

The kiosk in the police lobby allows 43rd District Court probationers to be tested for court-ordered alcohol breath tests.

The police previously administered the alcohol breath tests until the COVID-19 pandemic picked up last year.

The AB Kiosk is made by Minneapolis-based Precision Kiosk Technologies, which has around 36 of these kiosks in use nationwide.

Ferndale officials got a grant to rent the kiosk for $1,700 per month.

Ferndale's court remains closed to the public.
