San Jose, California has deployed additional bike rental kiosks to serve residents in the city. Bay Area Bike Share deployed the first group of kiosks in San Jose in 2013 and just finished its two year pilot program, according to a report by The Mercury News.

The kiosks are deployed near transit stations, supermarkets, coffee shops and other central hubs and allow customers to ride the bike a short distance to another kiosk close to their destination. If the user spends more than 30 minutes riding the bike, they will be charged an overtime fee.

In San Jose, there are now 15 bike kiosks, but the company plans to deploy additional kiosks in other cities such as San Francisco, Redwood City, Palo Alto and Mountain View. Bay Area Bike Share plans to roll out a total of 80 or 90 kiosks across San Jose in the future.

According to Emily Stapleton, general manager of Bay Area Bike Share, the company plans to create,  "a contiguous system so the stations are well connected."
