Samsung is considering building 11 chipmaking facilities in the Austin, Texas area over the next 20 years, one of the biggest investments in the area's history that could create over 10,000 jobs, according to an Austin American Statesman report.

The news follows the announcement of plans to build a $17 billion semiconductor factory in Taylor.

The plans are described in applications the company filed with the Manor and Taylor school districts seeking tax breaks for the facilities.
