Safeway San Francisco stores install slide-out security gates at self-checkout kiosks

Two Safeway supermarkets in San Francisco have installed automated slide-out security gates at the self-checkout kiosk section to prevent theft, according to shoppers interviewed by abc7news.com.

The barriers slide out to let the shopper leave when the kiosk scans a receipt.

Other supermarkets have installed similar gates and barriers in response to increasing theft.

Safeway did not respond to the news outlet to a request for comment.
