Government researchers claim to have found a way to charge electric car batteries up to 90% in just 10 minutes, nearing the goal to make EV charging as fast as traditional gasoline charging, according to a report in The Washington Post.
The scientists, according to a report released this week, said the method is probably five years away from being market ready, but would be a fundamental shift.
Eric Dufek, a scientist at the Idaho National Laboratory, a research center run by the Department of Energy and lead author of the study, and his team are seeking a way to charge batteries up to 20 miles per minute, which exceeds the top performing chargers that charge in about 10 to 15 miles per minute.
