NEW YORK - As retailers roll out Web-enabled kiosks in their stores, the use of gift registries will increase, according to a new report by Jupiter Media Metrix.
The new report showed that only 8 percent of online buyers have ever made a purchase using a gift registry, and that 74 percent have never viewed, created or bought an item through an online gift registry.
While the numbers may sound discouraging to retailers, Jupiter analysts believe the use of registries will grow with the placing of kiosks in stores.
The survey of 3,620 online consumers showed that only 3 percent had created an online registry or wish list for a wedding or anniversary. Jupiter said 40 percent of retailers offer an online gift registry on Web sites. It also found that the most likely to use online registries is females aged 25-34.
