Curb Systems, the parking kiosk company behind the disastrous deployment in Reno, Nev., has 120 days to complete the system or else be forced to pay the city $615,000 to make up for lost parking revenue. The City Council also voted unanimously to terminate the contract at the end of the 120 days if the project is still incomplete, according to a report on rgj.com.
"I just go back to a real belief that when we're trying to bring visitors and residents back to our downtown core we need to be removing frustrations and barriers," Councilwoman Neoma Jardon said on Wednesday, calling the system a failure in the court of public opinion.
Frank Terrasas, a spokesman and investor in Curb System, said he hopes to keep the relationship on a positive note and to continue working collaboratively with the city. He added the company wants to place "parking ambassadors" in downtown Reno this summer, in order to help people who don't understand the digital kiosks.
