Redbox started this week to test video game rentals for $2 a night at 150 DVD kiosks in Austin, Texas; Wilmington, N.C.; and Reno, Nev., offering Xbox, Wii and PS3 titles, according to a news roundup by the convenience store trade pub CSP Daily News. Redbox offers Blu-ray DVDs for $1.50 a night and standard DVDs for $1 a night.
And competitor Blockbuster, which licenses the Express DVD rental kiosk to NCR Corp., is searching for a CEO to replace current leader Jim Keyes. The search has just begun and Keyes is in the running to remain in the post. Blockbuster declared bankruptcy in September.
