Redbox first-quarter revenue doubles

Video Business: On the heels of its acquisition by Coinstar, redbox and its smaller sister brand, DVDXpressis, reported a 156-percent jump in first quarter revenue. Revenue for 1Q came in at $154.7 million, up from from $60.5 million for the same period one year earlier. The sales lift comes as the result of a rise in earning for Coinstar's DVD operations, a 35-percent lift in same-store sales, and the addition of 1,700 machines to its fleet during the first quarter.Coinstar said today it is on pace to meet its forecast of at least 20,000 kiosks installed by the end of 2009.
