Recycling kiosk collects 2 millionth container

April 6, 2010

The Greenopolis Recycling System celebrated the collection of its 2 millionth container this weekend at Whole Foods Market in West Hollywood, when Wayne Meza recycled a Tecata Cerveza can.

According to a press release, Wayne says he always recycles with Greenopolis after band practice, and this weekend he was the lucky recipient of gift certificate, flowers and a card signed by the Greenopolis Team.

The Greenopolis Recycling Kiosks have been collecting items in the L.A., Phoenix and Northern California areas for months. In partnership with Whole Foods Markets and resource water, the kiosks collect bottles, cans and plastic in an effort to reuse and repurpose these materials into something new.

This closed loop system focuses on single use containers and recycling "on the go" to aid in increased recycling rates, which also helps keep these items out of oceans and habitats by putting them back into the reprocessing stream.
