Quantas to test mobile check-in this summer
April 29, 2010
Network World reports that Australian airline Quantas plans to pilot-test a mobile check-in system in July at a number of airports across that country. The check-in system, which uses 2D barcodes sent to passengers' mobile devices, is expected to roll out nationwide later this year.
According to the report, the mobile check-in system is expected to cut check-in times per passenger from 1.2 minutes for a standard at-counter check-in to as short as 15 seconds. The system also allows passengers to access via mobile real-time flight information and status updates.
