Qatar deploys biometric kiosks at airport to facilitate automated e-gates

January 19, 2017

The State of Qatar Ministry of Interior has deployed biometric data activation centers at Hamad International Airport in Doha to encourage travelers to register to use the automated e-gates, according to Future Travel Experience, a website for improving travel experience.

The activation centers each have five self-service enrollment kiosks. Travelers' iris and fingerprint scans link to their ID cards and passports. Once the process has been completed, they can use the immigration e-gates when traveling through the airport.

According to the ministry, the kiosks will provide a more seamless airport experience to expatriates entering or leaving the country.

As part of the strategy to minimize queuing times and secure passenger processing, the ministry is increasing the number of e-gates. A total 35 e-gates will be installed in the departures and arrivals lounges.
