NIO, a Chinese EV manufacturer, has opened its first European "power swap station" in Denmark, allowing drivers to replace their used-up battery with a fully charged one, a five-minute process, according to a euronews.com report.
Once the car enters the station, the system raises the vehicle, removes the battery and replaces it with one that is charged.
The station charges the batteries in stock.
There are presently more than 1,100 such stations worldwide, mostly in China
NIO plans to open 100 stations in Europe this year.
The European Union, meanwhile, hopes to have 30 million EV vehicles on its roads by 2030 and plans to ban new diesel and petrol cars by 2035.
