The U.S. Postal Service is modernizing post office lobbies nationwide with technology to speed service and reduce wait times, according to a press release.

Upgrades include enhanced self-service kiosks that can weigh items, print labels and sell supplies, 24/7 smart lockers for secure package pickup and digital displays to guide customers through available services. A Rapid Drop mobile app will also allow customers to store prepaid labels, track shipments and access retail tools.

"Modernizing our retail spaces is about meeting customers where they are today," Tracy Raymond, the Postal Service's director of retail operations, said in the release. "People expect speed, clarity and technology-driven convenience — and that's what our new lobbies deliver, while still offering the trusted, in-person attention that defines the Postal Service."

The agency said 2,600 locations now feature upgraded kiosks and 700 include smart lockers, part of its 10-year "Delivering for America" plan to improve service and stabilize finances.
