Polygon, Autocity take top honors in German awards

STUTTGART, Germany -- Polygon GmbH was recently honored with a German Multimedia Award in the kiosk terminal category for the first time in several years. Heusenstamm, Germany-based Polygon shared the award with Autocity GmbH of Wolfsburg, Germany, for their work on Autocity's Kinetic Information Terminal.

There were just six kiosks submitted for the award as the Multimedia awards were down overall, with 344 total entries as compared to 423 in 2001. The winner and the further five candidates work presented their entries during the DMMV trade show in Stuttgart.

"Even though we did not see anything sensational, the digital economy is still growing," said j-POINT's Peter Schmandt, a member of the jury.

The Autocity terminal was developed as an information provider for Volkswagen and utilizes a rounded base and a cylindrical display case. Polygon's Web site describes the kiosks as resembling robots.

The jury appointed in the kiosk terminal systems category was composed of experts in the kiosk field for the first time, according to German kiosk consultant Eckhard Reimann. The focus of the competition was on terminal-based platforms dedicate to communication and marketing. Jury members included journalists, kiosk executives, and academics.

Along with the winning entry, others entering the competition included:

A book-trading information terminal submitted by Info Square GmbH;

n

A technical project involving Volkswagen created by emergent media AG;

n

A dynamic kiosk information system for Dusseldorf, Germany, submitted by dimedis GmbH;

n

Imago's activator kiosk submitted by plan_b media AG; and

n

The i-Tower kiosk terminal submitted by Schmidt Information Technology.

The jury, concerned over the small number of submissions, recommended that changes be made in the nomination process for next year.
