Montgomery County, Penn., officials recently approved a pilot program to test a self-service payment kiosk that will accept credit cards, debit cards and "any legal U.S. tender," according to county Chief Financial Officer Uri Z. Monson, in an article on phillyburbs.com.
The kiosk would initially be placed in a county courthouse office such as the clerk of courts, which handles all criminal case matters, the article reported. The county would expand the kiosk program to other offices in the county pending a positive result from the pilot.
"We would try it in one office and make sure it works and then have this type of system out and around the county," said Commissioner Chairman Josh Shapiro. "Colorado has found that the kiosks improve collection rates, probably because of the ease."
