PayPoint appoints Transaction Network Services in multi-year, dial-up contract

December 21, 2004

RESTON, Va. - Transaction Network Services Inc., one of the UK's leading providers of data communications services, has been appointed by PayPoint to provide dial-up connectivity between PayPoint's retail terminals and its headquarters in Welwyn Garden City, according to a news release.

PayPoint currently operates approximately 12,000 terminals in convenient locations, where it collects payments for utility bills and mobile phone pre-payments, to name a couple.

In a five-year deal, using its secure and private network, TNS will route transactions from terminals located in C-stores, newsstands, supermarkets, service stations and liquor stores to PayPoint's processing hubs in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield.

"PayPoint facilities are sought after by retailers wanting to provide an extra service to customers," said Barry Skillett, general manager of operations for PayPoint. "TNS' solution is enabling us to expand our network at a rate that was not previously possible."

"Because TNS' dial-up service blends seamlessly with PayPoint's POS and ATMs, it is possible to bring new end-points on stream quickly," said Alan Haskins, UK sales account manager for TNS. "The TNS network will reduce the time taken to route transactions in-store."

"PayPoint was looking for data communications services capable of transmitting transactions from terminals in Ireland as well as the U.K.," he added. "Using TNS' international network, we will also provide routing to around 1,000 Irish terminals to the PayPoint host."

PayPoint now handles 4 million transactions each week at more than 14,000 stores in the UK.
