ePaynews: Pay-at-pump fueling services not only deter motorists from leaving a gas station without paying, but reduce the risk of store attendants stealing credit card details or gasoline for their own profit.
In West Baltimore, one attendant used a magnetic key and master codes to put the station's gas pumps on standby before selling gas for $10 per tank and pocketing the proceeds. About 450 gallons of gas worth $1,300 was pilfered from the station in question before the attendant was confronted and found to be pulling the same ruse at up to eight other local gas stations.
