Parking kiosks in Maine town to take credit cards and cash

April 27, 2017

Parking kiosks that accept both credit cards and cash will replace traditional parking meters this summer in York Beach, Maine, according to seacoastonline.com.

York Beach contracted with the German-based company Hectronic to supply 20 parking kiosks last December at a cost of $190,750, and they are due to arrive in York soon. Voters approved the purchase last May.

The kiosks will be placed from the Anchorage Inn north to the Cutty Sark on Long Beach Avenue and throughout downtown York Beach, including the parking area in front of York's Wild Kingdom. Cost will be $2 per hour, up from $1 per hour in previous summers.

Each parking space will be numbered and that number will be stenciled in an easy-to-see location like the sidewalk. The motorist goes to a kiosk and enters the number into the system prior to paying.  It is not a pay and display system where users put a piece of paper on the dashboard.

The motorist can download the Hectronic app for free (the instructions will be on the kiosk) or use another approved one, and from the beach simply plug the number into the app, add hours and stay put. Or he or she can go up to any other kiosk, plug in the number and add hours.
