Palm Beach, Florida to spend $360,000 to replace 37 parking kiosks

August 1, 2017

The Palm Beach, Florida town council approved a five-year, lease-to-own agreement with Cale America of Clearwater for 37 new parking kiosks, according to The Palm Beach Daily News. The town will pay the company $360,000 to replace electronic kiosks bought in 2008. The new kiosks will be in place by November 1, according to Deputy Town Manager Jay Boodheshwar.

Palm Beach spent $312,000 in 2008 to replace its traditional parking meters with electronic kiosks that it expected to last 10 years.

The kiosks screens turned out to be nearly impossible to read on account of glare when the sun was blazing. In 2015, the vendor, Duncan Technologies, said it would no longer maintain the devices since it was getting out of the business. The town decided to keep the units a little longer to get its money's worth out of them.

Earlier this year, town decided it was time to replace the kiosks, which will be fully depreciated within a few months, Boodheshwar said.
