Pakistan kiosks to combine petrol, bill-paying

March 21, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan Telecommunication Ltd. (PTCL) is working with banks in that country to develop a new bill-paying technology available through kiosks at gas stations and retail outlets throughout the country.

The service is part of a Direct Debit bill-paying program that PTCL and several unnamed multinational banks will introduce on May 31, according to published reports. Under the program, bank customers can direct the financial institutions to pay their bills directly through their accounts.

The kiosks will allow customers to pay their bills and make deposits. Initially, the kiosks will be available in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, according to Pakistan's Frontier Post newspaper.

PTCL, which provides telecommunications and bill-paying services, currently works with about 6,300 banks in Pakistan, according to the Frontier Post.
