BOULDER, Colo. - Outdoor digital technology company Outdoor Intel has entered into a strategic partnership with National Geographic's mapping division that could eventually lead to the creation of on-demand map kiosks for use by fishermen.
Under the terms of the partnership, Boulder, Colo.-based Outdoor Intel will pair fishing hot spots mapping data with National Geographic Maps's TOPO! software platform to create a number of different applications for outdoor enthusiasts, including CD-ROMs, kiosks, and Internet products. The partnership's first products are expected to launch in early 2002.
Kiosks that would allow fishermen to find new fishing spots would be the latest in a series of initiatives combining maps and kiosks. Earlier this year, Palatine, Ill., based Dauphin Technology Inc. reached an agreement to provide roadside assistance and mapping kiosks for the Automobile & Touring Club of Greece. And Alamo Rent-A-Car and Sun Microsystems teamed earlier this year to develop kiosks that would enable Alamo customers to print maps.
