Oracle project ropes in the Lone Star state

February 24, 2002

AUSTIN, Texas - New Internet Computer Co. (NIC), a side project of leading computer development and services company Oracle Corp., is partnering with Austin, Texas-based consultant Summa Associates to deploy a series of public access kiosks in remote areas of Texas.

NIC's Internet appliance will be used to develop Internet and e-mail ready kiosks for Texas cities that received grants from the state's Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board. The board is designed to develop the state's telecommunications infrastructure.

The company did not estimate how many Texas towns would take part in the project, or when the first machine will be deployed.
