NorthStar beefs up restaurant security with Bluetooth MagTek card swipe

NorthStar Order Entry has integrated MagTek's DynaPro Mini card swipe and PIN entry device into its iPad hospitality ordering system developed by Custom Business Solutions.

The DynaPro Mini offers a card swipe, EMV reader, PIN entry keypad and card data tokenization solution leveraging MagneSafe Security Architecture. NorthStar Order Entry and DynaPro Mini are designed to limit the risk of data breaches without compromising order speed by providing an end-to-end secure system that limits the scope of PCI for the NorthStar Order Entry platform.

NorthStar's iPad ordering solution consolidates traditional POS interface, guest-facing ordering interface, kiosk ordering mode and integrated web and mobile ordering into one platform. MagTek equips Order Entry with its encryption, tokenization and card authentication technology with Bluetooth connectivity.

"The adoption of new technology required for PCI and EMV card acceptance, as well as the increased expectations from today’s restaurant patrons lends itself to the utilization of the DynaPro Mini with the NorthStar Order Entry software," said John Arato, MagTek’s vice president and general manager for retail products, in a statement. "The DynaPro Mini, suitable for both countertop and mobile solutions, is incredibly secure. It exceeds PCI PTS 3.x security requirements, but will also position the NorthStar Order Entry customer for the future with its EMV Smart Card acceptance."
