The city of Beaufort, North Carolina installed its first kiosk parking meter system downtown in June 2014, according to Time Warner Cable News.
Three months later, the meter system has brought in $67,000, $25,000 of which went toward expenses, leaving town with a $40,000 profit, the article said.
Town Manager Charlie Burgess earmarked the profits for town improvements
"Our expenses were upwards of $25,000. So there's a net of $40,000 that will be reinvested over the winter and into the early spring. Back into streetscape improvements, be it park benches, or new trash cans, or improved lighting, or other types of enhancements to the downtown district area," said Burgess in the article.
Tomorrow, September 30, is the last day for piloting of the new system. The Board of Commissioners will decide if the program should continue and, if approved, have the system operating again by Memorial Day Weekend of 2015.
